idOnDemand, Symantec partner for cloud authentication

idOnDemand announced that its idOnDemand SmartID card can be used to authenticate mobile devices for clientless secure logon to the Symantec Validation and ID Protection (VIP) Service.

idOnDemand’s enterprise customers now can carry just one identity card to access multiple buildings, logon to their computers, remotely access the company VPN and securely access data from their mobile devices. By embedding a near field communications chip into each idOnDemand SmartID card, securely accessing corporate resources through Symantec VIP is now easier and safer. 

Samsung joins OSPT Alliance

The Open Standard for Public Transport (OSPT) Alliance, an international association chartered to define a new open standard for secure transit fare collection solutions, has announced the admission of Samsung Electronics as a full member.

As part of the OSPT Alliance, Samsung will pursue the development of commercialized semiconductor products for building next-generation transit fare collection systems based on the CIPURSE open security standard. 

CPI Card Group taps Bell ID to become Trusted Service Manager

CPI Card Gro­­up has selected Bell ID’s Trusted Service Manager (TSM) software solutions to enable the provisioning and management NFC applications for its customers across North America.

Using Bell ID’s solutions, CPI will be able to assume the role of TSM and provide the personalization of NFC secure elements and the secure provisioning of applicati­­ons – such as payment, loyalty and transit – over the air to an NFC enabled mobile handset. 

Study: The American student population wants to use cell phones as their ID

Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies announced that research has found that two-thirds of American college students are interested in using their cell phone in place of an ID card.

Data from independent research also revealed that nearly half of all students identify their cell phones as their favorite personal electronic device. Students feel they are less likely to lose their phone than an ID card and they know that ID cards are shared, whereas phones are not.

Bell ID announced the launch of Bell ID Mobile Token Manager, a new software platform that provides over-the-air life cycle management of applications, cryptographic keys and secure elements NFC-enabled mobile devices.

According to Bell ID, the solution assists mobile network operators, service providers and trusted third parties in executing complex Trusted Service Manager (TSM) services or the provisioning of applications onto mobile device handsets. 

SD Association, GlobalPlatform to include NFC in new SD standards

The SD Association has announced a new collaboration with GlobalPlatform to include smart-chip technology in SD standards, enabling mobile phones and other portable CE devices to provide authentication services with SD memory cards.

According to the association, standardized authentication services on microSD and full-size SD memory cards would transform consumers’ mobile phones and CE devices into electronic wallets, enabling NFC-enabled cashless payments and paperless identification, plus a variety of value-added applications leveraging NFC. 

Luxury hotels in Greece adopt contactless locks from VingCard

VingCard Elsafe has completed installation of its Signature RFID contactless electronic door locks and VISION access management system at a pair of luxury hotels in Greece.

Guests at The Romanos and Westin Resort Costa Navarino, both owned by Starwood Hotels & Resorts, can now access their rooms with a tap of a contactless keycard or an NFC-enabled phone.
