NFC key fob lets you check oil from the driver's seat

Automotive technology provider Delphi is releasing a new key fob that enable drivers to check on their car’s vitals via smart phone, according to M2M magazine.

The NFC key fob communicates directly with an NFC module installed in the vehicle that relays data–for example, tire pressure, fuel level, maintenance notifications and oil level, among other stats–directly to the user’s NFC smart phone.

Apple has filed a patent for a new mobile app that would allow users to purchase, use and store event tickets via iPhone, according to crunchgear.com.

The NFC-enabled “Concert Ticket +” can potentially be used for any number of events, including sporting events, amusement parks and, of course, concerts. 

Report: cash on the decline in UK

A new report from UK’s Payments Council has revealed that cash payments in the UK are in sharp decline.

The Council found that between 1999 and 2009 cash payments have fallen from 73% to 59%, while debit cards and contactless cards are on the rise.

Sagem reveals new NFC-enabled Android phone

Sagem has announced a 2010 launch for its new Android phone, the Netribe, according to knowyourmobile.com.

The NFC-enabled Netribe, developed for Puma, will feature biometric technology, solar cells and atmospheric sensors, among what promises to be a myriad of new functions.

Sagem has remained hush-hush on the specs of Netribe, but disclosed that it will be “more than an Android open OS tablet phone.”

Netribe is expected to ship in the third quarter of 2010 and will cost in the neighborhood of $150.

University of Denver adds NFC to curriculum

The University of Denver’s hotel, restaurant and tourism school is launching NFC mobile payment at the campus’ student run coffee shop, according to americanbanker.com.

Students and faculty will be able to use their mobile phones to make point-of-sale purchases, as well as add money to their accounts and check balances and transaction histories.
