Boku to offer mobile paments through MasterCard

Thursday, February 23, 2012

Online payments provider Boku has teamed up with MasterCard to launch Boku Accounts – a new mobile service that enables customers to make NFC payments anywhere MasterCard PayPass is accepted.

Offered through a mobile subscriber’s mobile network operator, Boku Accounts also enables merchants to create loyalty programs as well as send targeted offers to customers via mobile apps, SMS text messages, push notifications or e-mails.

According to Boku, the platform supports “on the go” payments through both NFC-enabled PayPass devices and MasterCard Prepaid cards. [end]

BOKU's new mobile wallet (http://www.boku.com) can accommodate only a prepaid card, which makes it not nearly as appealing to consumers as Google Wallet, but BOKU's most valuable customers are its retailers. And BOKU's proposition to merchants is truly irresistible. Participating merchants are given access to the payment information stored in the virtual wallets of BOKU's users and can use it to send targeted offers to them. And considering the huge size of BOKU's user base, that is a very attractive prospect indeed.
