Turkcell adds Akbank to mobile wallet app

Turkcell, Turkey’s largest mobile operator, has expanded its Cep-T Cüzdan mobile wallet application to accept payments made with Akbank’s Axess credit cards.

Turkcell customers can now load their Akbank credit cards onto an NFC-enabled phone to make contactless purchases wherever Cep-T Cüzdan is accepted.


“We have initiated a new era with the Cep-T Cüzdan, which is one of the global firsts in the commercial application of NFC technology,” said Chief New Technology Business Officer Cenk Bayrakdar. “By turning mobile phones into wallets with the Cep-T Cüzdan application, Turkcell customers can enjoy secure and practical contactless payment.”

In support of Cep-T Cüzdan, Turkcell recently launched Turkey’s first NFC-enabled handset – the T20 Android smart phone powered by NXP Semiconductors. T20 owners can use the handset make a variety of of contactless transactions, including retail purchases, transport ticketing and access control, according to Turkcell. [end] 

Auriemma Consulting Group is set to launch a comprehensive consumer study on the future of the mobile wallet.

The study comprises an overview of the current state of the UK mobile wallet space and attempts to answer “What comes next?” after launch. To determine the next stage of the mobile wallet, the study examines the features and benefits consumers expect on mobile wallets, and potential ways to expand the mobile wallets’ capabilities.

Denizbank, a private bank with 588 branches in Turkey, has joined Turkcell’s Cep-T Cuzdan platform, enabling its customers to make contactless payments with their NFC-enabled handsets.

Turkcell, Turkey’s largest mobile operator, has reportedly issued 300,000 of its T-series NFC-enabled phones to subscribers, according to NFC World.

Turkcell’s T11 and T20 phones, along with the BlackBerry Bold 9900, are compatible with Turkcell’s Cep-T Cüzdan mobile wallet, which enables contactless mobile payments, ticketing, loyalty, ID and, most recently, road toll payments.

Turkcell, Turkey’s largest mobile operator, has announced the launch of a SIM-based NFC road toll payment application on the Turkcell T11 smart phone.

Developed in collaboration with Bank Asya, the app allows users to migrate their plastic KGS toll payment cards onto their T11 smart phone to pay for fares when crossing bridges and freeway turnpikes.
