OnPoint CU debuts Tyfone mobile gift card service

Wednesday, November 23, 2011

OnPoint Community Credit Union, an Oregon-based institution, has announced the launch of Tyfone’s iCashé Mobile Wallet program.

The new service enables OnPoint’s 226,000 members to buy gift cards over a mobile phone and send them to others via SMS or email. Gift card recipients can use their cards in-store or online via their smart phone or with a printed copy of the confirmation email.

According to Tyfone, more than 50 national retailers and restaurants are now offering the mobile gift cards for purchase, with local retail options expected to be added in the future. Current participating retailers include: American Airlines, Nike, K-Mart, Land’s End, Barnes & Noble, Overstock.com, REI and more.

“iCashé Mobile Wallet is the latest example of how OnPoint is offering the best technology and convenience services to its members,” said Rob Stuart, OnPoint’s president and CEO. “We are happy to have a local company, Tyfone as our partner.” [end]

Tyfone has been awarded two U.S. Patents for its new miniaturized NFC antenna design.

Specifically designed for use in MicroSD cards, the mini antenna works with any smart card secure element, across multiple mobile devices and on any NFC reader without the need for external booster antennas or after-market battery covers.
