NFC-enabled Blackberry Bold 9900, Curve 9360 receive PayPass ceritification

Research In Motion’s BlackBerry Bold 9900 (pictured) and BlackBerry Curve 9360 smart phones have become the first SIM-based NFC handsets receive MasterCard PayPass certification.

According to RIM, any bank around the globe offering MasterCard PayPass technology can now deploy PayPass accounts directly to the SIM card on both smart phones, enabling owners to make contactless mobile purchases wherever PayPass is accepted.

The NFC-enabled smart phones, which debuted in August, are available in Europe through MNO France Telecom - Orange.

Andrew Bocking, VP of Handheld Software Product Management at RIM, called the move a “significant step forward” for the NFC payments ecosystem, adding that RIM is working with partners, banks, retailers and other industry players to promote the technology. [end]

Turkcell launches mobile wallet on BlackBerry phones

Turkcell, Turkey’s largest mobile operator, has announced the launch of its Cep-T Cüzdan NFC mobile wallet application on BlackBerry Bold 9900 smart phones.

Turkcell subscribers with NFC-enabled Bold 9900s can now use the mobile wallet service to make contactless payments at any MasterCard PayPass-enabled point of sale across Turkey, as well as abroad.

MasterCard certifies multiple NFC handsets

MasterCard has certified a slew of NFC-enabled smart phones for use with MasterCard PayPass contactless payment technology.

Newly certified devices include: BlackBerry Bold 9790, BlackBerry Curve 9380, HTC One X, Intel Smartphone Reference Device, LG Viper 4G LTE, LG Optimus Elite, Nokia 603, Nokia Lumia 610 NFC, Samsung Wave Y, Samsung Galaxy mini 2, Samsung Galaxy S Advance, Samsung Galaxy Nexus (GT-i9250), Sony Xperia S, Sony Xperia P and Sony Xperia sola.

RIM's new Music Gateway streams music via NFC

Research In Motion has unveiled a new device called the BlackBerry Music Gateway that can stream music wirelessly from an NFC-enabled BlackBerry handset.

Slated for release in June, the $50 device can be hooked up to a home stereo or car audio system via auxiliary input. To stream music, the user simply taps his or her NFC-enabled BlackBerry Bold 9790 or Curve 9360/9380 handset against the Music Gateway to establish a connection.
