GlobalPlatforms launches compliance trademark

Wednesday, September 21, 2011

GlobalPlatform, a non-profit association in the smart chip industry, has announced the launch of its compliance program trademark, designed to ensure the creation of an interoperable end-to-end environment for managing applications on secure chip technology.

The association has appointed a dedicated secretariat who will manage all qualification processes for products, test tools and laboratories, as well as issue the GlobalPlatform trademark to qualified vendors in the identity, payments, transport and mobile industries.

The compliance program will initially focus on GlobalPlatform UICC Configuration in the mobile services sector. In the future, the trademark will also be applicable to card products issued by banks and governments, according to GlobalPlatform.

Marc Kekicheff, Chair of GlobalPlatform, comments: “Market stability can only be achieved through the adoption of industry standards and specifications and a commitment from the industry to test, verify and maintain this technology in the future. With the testing infrastructure in place, GlobalPlatform is now focused on the long-term advancement of this program and expanding into different markets.”

GlobalPlatform UICC qualified test tools are currently available from Barnes International, Collis, FIME and Galitt. Certified laboratory services are available from Applus+, FIME, ICT Korea and RFI Global. [end]
