VingCard grabs hospitality industry award for NFC locking solution

VingCard Elsafe has announced that its new ASSA ABLOY Mobile Keys Solution has won the Self-Service Products category in Casino Enterprise Management magazine’s second annual Hospitality Operations Technology (HOT) Awards.

Formally launched in June, the ASSA ABLOY Mobile Keys Solution combines VingCard Elsafe’s VISIONLINE system and NFC technology to enable hotel guests to check-in remotely online and use their NFC mobile phones as virtual guestroom keys.

After checking in online, the hotel sends a digital encrypted hotel key to the guest’s NFC-enabled mobile phone, which can then be used to unlock the room by simply passing it over the door lock. This way the guest can bypass the front desk and go straight to the hotel room. [end]

This looks like a great replacement for all types of plastic cards based door lock systems..I would think it would have plastic card capabilities such as mag stripe or RFID, just in case some staying at the hotel do not have cell phones.
