Paytoo adds global money transfers to mobile wallet

Paytoo has announced the addition of a multi-currency mobile payment platform to its SIM-based mobile wallet.

According to Paytoo, the company’s mobile wallet service now supports international, mobile multi-currency transfers across the globe in real time, as well as online mobile payments and prepaid account top up through 185 mobile operators in 85 countries.


“Real-time transactions can be made from virtually anywhere in the world,” said the company in a release. “Users can transfer funds from Ecuador to Nepal and all points in between. For the daily needs of the unbanked population, Paytoo’s system is more efficient than any other solution in the current marketplace.”

Paytoo operates through the USSD network and is compatible with any operating system, mobile operator and handset, according to the company.

The solution is currently available in 60,000 US locations and over 400,000 worldwide that accept cash deposits - most recently in Ecuador, Argentina, Paraguay, and Mexico. [end] 

Mobile operator Digicel Pacific Limited has announced the deployment of VeriFone’s mWallet services and NFC-enabled payment systems in the Kingdom of Tonga.

Starting this week, Digicel subscribers in the the Tongan capital Nuku’alofa will be able to receive NFC tags that are linked to their mobile phone numbers and VeriFone’s contactless payment acceptance systems. Customers can affix these tags to their phones to tap and pay at over 50 merchants in Nuku’alofa.

American Express has announced that it is adding its Consumer, Open Small Business and Serve cards to the Isis Mobile Wallet platform.

American Express now joins Chase, Capitol One and BarclayCard in enabling its card holders to make NFC payments and collect rewards using an Isis-enabled mobile phone.

UK mobile operator O2 has announced the launch of its O2 Wallet mobile money service.

O2 Wallet enables users transfer funds up to £500 to any UK mobile phone number, compare the prices of goods via bar code scan, receive coupons and offers, link credit and debit cards to their accounts, and shop online with a prepaid Visa O2 Money Account Card.
