Friday, August 26, 2011

Ingenico has announced it is joining Globus hypermarkets in the first mobile payments pilot in the Czech Republic.

Launched at the end of July, the six month trial involves 400 clients of Telefonica, Citibank and Commercial Bank using Samsung Star 5230 NFC-enabled handsets to make contactless payments at Globus super stores in and around Prague.

Ingenico will supply the payment terminals for the project, which will accept contactless transactions up to 500 Kc ($30) without pin or signature.

According to Ingenico, the company’s terminals are now used at 50,000 points of sale in the Czech Republic. Ingenico plans for most of these terminals to be contactless enabled in 2012. [end]
