Samsung launches Bada 2.0 SDK, plans more smart phones

Samsung has released a Bada 2.0 software development kit (SDK) in anticipation of launching several new smart phones later this year, according to v3.co.uk.

First announced at the beginning of 2011, Bada 2.0 features support for NFC, HTML5, Wi-Fi direct sharing and voice recognition in addition to a number of other updates.


To kick start Bada 2.0, Samsung is gearing up to launch three mid-range to high-end Wave smart phones running on the new platform the end of the year, reports v3.

Additionally, as part of a ‘Bada 2.0 Power App Race’ event, Samsung is offering a cash prize to the first 20 developers whose apps reach 100,000 downloads.

Developers can download the Bada 2.0 SDK from developer.bada.com.

MasterCard has certified a slew of NFC-enabled smart phones for use with MasterCard PayPass contactless payment technology.

Newly certified devices include: BlackBerry Bold 9790, BlackBerry Curve 9380, HTC One X, Intel Smartphone Reference Device, LG Viper 4G LTE, LG Optimus Elite, Nokia 603, Nokia Lumia 610 NFC, Samsung Wave Y, Samsung Galaxy mini 2, Samsung Galaxy S Advance, Samsung Galaxy Nexus (GT-i9250), Sony Xperia S, Sony Xperia P and Sony Xperia sola.

Samsung is looking to use NFC-enabled mobile access credentials in place of ID cards for workers at its Suwon, South Korea offices.

According to The Verge, the new system would enable Samsung employees to tap their phones against a reader to access their building and other secure areas, rather than present a traditional ID card.
