Identive to supply 1 million NFC tags for handset maker

Friday, July 29, 2011

Identive Group has announced it will design and supply more than one million NFC tags over the next six months for a leading mobile handset manufacturer.

Designed to help familiarize customers with NFC technology, the tags will enable a variety of applications such as linking to a Web address or URL, dialing a specific phone number, or having a map pop up to show nearby points of interest, according to Identive.

Delivered through Identive’s Smartag subsidiary, the industry standard tags will be included in-box with each NFC-enabled mobile phone the company ships.

David Holmes, Identive’s vice president of Mobility & NFC Solutions, comments: “The promise of NFC is that it will both simplify and enrich our daily activities, and Identive is helping to deliver on this promise by providing the technology components to build an NFC user infrastructure for the millions of NFC-enabled devices that will become available over the next few years.” [end]

Identive Group has revealed a new open-standards based solution that enables users to access secure buildings with the tap of a smart phone.

According to Identive, the solution integrates the PLAID government-grade access authentication protocol with the secure processor within an NFC-enabled smart phone. When used with Identive’s new line of TouchSecure readers, the NFC phone can be used in place of traditional physical access credentials, such as smart cards, to quickly and easily enter secure areas.
