Tuesday, July 19, 2011

LG Electronics has announced the addition of two new Android-based Optimus Series smart phones, the LG Optimus Pro and the LG Optimus Net.

According to LG, both phones will run on the latest NFC-enabled Android 2.3 platform, ‘Gingerbread.’ However, only some of the phones launched in Europe will be NFC capable for mobile payments, depending on the carrier.

The first of the handsets, the Optimus Pro, features a both a QWERTY keyboard and a 2.8-inch touch display, along with designated hot keys for email and calendar services.

The Optimus Net features LG Social+, a widget that combines social networking portals into one interface, allowing users to easily switch between updating their statuses on Facebook and Twitter while reading their friends’ social media feeds on the same screen. Social+ also provides one-click photo sharing with multiple social media accounts from the home screen. The North American version of the Net will include a QWERTY keyboard and in Brazil, China, Asia and the CIS region, the handset will be dual SIM compatible.

LG says both the Optimus Pro and Optimus Net will boast the largest 1500mAh battery in their class and an 800 MHz CPU, ensuring longer, better performance.

LG will begin rolling out the handsets this summer to some 30 markets, starting with Europe. [end]
