New PayPal widget offers phone-to-phone NFC payments

PayPal has developed a new Android widget that enables users to tap their phones together to exchange money, reports PCWorld.

Expected to launch this summer, the widget runs only on NFC phones, like the Nexus S featured in the video above. To exchange funds, one user enters the amount to paid, and then holds their phone against the other user’s. This sends a payment request to the second user, who then enters a PIN, thereby confirming the payment.


According to PCWorld, the new service could be particularly successful in the small business community, as well as personal peer to peer payments.

PayByPhone has announced that the city of Ottawa is now offering an NFC payments option on parking meters.

According to PayByPhone, every Pay & Display machine in Ottawa has been outfitted with an NFC-enabled PayByPhone sticker, which users can tap with an NFC phone to set up and pay for parking time.

Nokia is launching a commercial trial of its PagSeguro NFC payments app in Brazil, the company announced via its official blog.

Starting in May, owners of Nokia C7, N9 and 701 handsets will be able to use PagSeguro to pay for items at NFC-enabled points of sale, as well as transfer funds between users.

American Express has announced that it is adding its Consumer, Open Small Business and Serve cards to the Isis Mobile Wallet platform.

American Express now joins Chase, Capitol One and BarclayCard in enabling its card holders to make NFC payments and collect rewards using an Isis-enabled mobile phone.
