Deutsch Telecom taps G&D for NFC SIM cards

Thursday, June 30, 2011

Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) has been commissioned by Deutsche Telekom to develop a NFC-enabled SIM card solution for mobile phones.

According to G&D, Deutsche Telekom plans to use the SIM, which will run on G&D’s SkySIM CX operating system, to offer NFC services such as contactless payments in various countries in the near future.

G&D says they are basing the new technology on Global Platform and ETSI standards, thereby ensuring that services can be integrated securely both into mobile network operators’ system infrastructure and into the networks of participating payment systems.

As part of the future-oriented solutions, G&D is also offering TSM and wallet systems which, together with the NFC SIM, can turn mobile phones into electronic wallets. [end]
