O2 UK has announced plans to launch a contactless mobile payment service in the UK later this year, according to Total Telecom.
O2’s managing director of financial services James Le Brocq told Total Telecom, “We want to take the entire contents of your wallet and put it on the mobile,” adding that the service will be available to all O2 customers in the second half of 2011.
In addition to developing the mobile wallet, O2 is in the middle of acquiring an e-money license that will let the operator offer a peer-to-peer money transfer service.
The UK operator is also in talks with device manufacturers over NFC-enabled handsets, according to TT.
