Research In Motion (RIM) is reportedly planning to equip next year’s BlackBerry smart phones with NFC chips, effectively turning them into mobile payment devices, according to berryreview.com.
The news coincides with both Google’s announcement that its new OS ‘Gingerbread’ will support NFC, and with AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile’s recently revealed joint venture into mobile payments, ‘Isis.’
In addition to contactless mobile payments, the new BlackBerries will support other NFC features, such as mobile coupons, discounts, public transit payments, and more, reports berryreview.com.
