Gemalto et al bring NFC to Thailand

Gemalto today announced it will provide its Trusted Services Management service to support the launch of NFC applications in Thailand.

Gemalto is partnering with KASIKORNBANK, the country’s second largest bank, and with Advanced Info Services, the nation’s largest telecommunications operator, to provide NFC services to Thai consumers such as touch-and-go mobile payment.

Gemalto is entrusted with the management and preparation of user information from KASIKORNBANK to operate secure over-the-air personalization services that enable mobile subscribers to gain access to NFC payments and AIS services.

Starting in July 2010, selected customers can collect their phones from KASIKORNBANK to use NFC applications at some 40 locations, including restaurants, theaters and supermarkets. [end]

Survey: Germans coming around to NFC, contactless payments

A new survey from Euro Kartensysteme shows that Germans are starting to embrace the idea of contactless and NFC payments.

Out of 1,040 Germans aged 18-59, 43% responded that they would like to make contactless payments if given the opportunity, of which 58% percent would make their payments with a debit card card, 41% with a credit card and 50% with an NFC phone.

Revosys loosk to bring NFC payments to taxi cabs

Boston-based Revosys has announced that it will implement NFC payment processing in its upcoming “Interactive V5 In-Taxi” advertising system.

According to Revosys, the upgraded Interactive V5 will allow passengers to pay for fares with NFC-enabled mobile phones, contactless credit and debit cards, and traditional magnetic stripe cards.
