NFC Forum welcomes 19 new members

The NFC Forum, a non-profit association dedicated to advancing NFC technology, has gained 19 new members from 14 countries.

The new members are from several sectors of the NFC industry, including semiconductor and terminal manufacturers, higher education, service providers, compliance and testing organizations and systems integrators.


According to the NFC Forum, the increasingly global composition of the organization demonstrates the growing support for NFC adoption worldwide.

Simply providing consumers with mobile wallet technology will not be sufficient to drive mass-market adoption, asserts Mobey Forum in a new white paper.

In “Mobile Wallet – Definition and Vision,” the bank-led mobile industry association advocates taking a “holistic” approach to driving adoption, centered on innovations in mobile marketing. Mobey Forum says it is also “essential” for banks to collaborate with other stakeholders to understand and define their role in the ecosystem.

The NFC Forum, a non-profit industry association dedicated to advancing NFC technology, has announced that credit card provider Barclaycard has become a sponsor member.

As a sponsor, Barclaycard will hold a seat on the NFC Forum Board of Directors, the organization’s governing body. According to the NFC Forum, sponsor membership is the highest level of involvement in the organization.

XING has announced that the newest version of its Android mobile app now contains support for NFC.

XING’s 11 million members can now exchange contact information wirelessly through a new feature called “XING Beam.” According to XING, the feature is activated when two XING members call up their profile on their NFC-enabled Android device and then hold the two devices next to each other.

The NFC Forum has announced that Intel Corporation has upgraded its membership from Principal to Sponsor, the highest level of membership in the organization.

As a Sponsor member, Intel will hold a seat on the NFC Forum Board of Directors, as well designate individuals to run for Forum leadership positions and appoint one voting representative to all NFC Forum Committees and Working Groups.
