Target goes mobile for gift cards

Thursday, February 11, 2010

Target shoppers now have the option of making gift card purchases using their mobile phones, according to American Banker.

Customers can use the Mobile GiftCard service by accessing Target’s Web site via their mobile phones, where they can register their gift cards and create a PIN number to make secure transactions. To make a purchase, a customer selects the gift card from their phone’s mobile browser, bringing up a bar code which the employee scans to complete the transaction.

The Web site also allows customers to manage several gift cards at once, allowing them to choose which card to use for a particular purchase.

The Target Mobile service works on any phone with a browser and is available for use at all 1,740 Target stores in the US.
