Nokia sells remaining shares of Venyon to G&D

Giesecke & Devrient and Nokia announced that G&D has become the sole shareholder in Venyon Oy by acquiring the shares held by Nokia. G&D held a majority of the shares before the acquisition.

Since its creation in 2006, Venyon has established itself as a trusted service managers (TSM) in the mobile near field communication market.


As a trusted service manager, Venyon provides trusted services to provision and manage applications such as credit cards or transit tickets securely over the mobile network on the user’s NFC-enabled mobile phone.

Venyon provides TSM services between mobile network operators issuing NFC-capable SIM cards and service providers such as transit companies and banks on the growing NFC market. [end] 

Nokia is launching a campaign to educate consumers in the United Arab Emirates on the benefits of using NFC technology in mobile devices.

The first of its kind in the UAE, the campaign will kick off with the installation of NFC-enabled posters at the VOX cinema in the Mall of the Emirates from Thursday to Saturday. All Nokia N9 smart phone users will be able to tap the posters to receive free cinema tickets, refreshments and the latest movie schedules from VOX cinema, according to Nokia.

Nokia and NFC Danmark have teamed up to launch an NFC-enabled smart poster campaign in Telia stores across Denmark.

Customers of Telia, a major Nordic mobile operator, can now user their NFC-enabled N9 phones to tap icons on the posters (pictured) to instantly download mobile apps.

Nokia has announced the launch of three new mass market NFC-enabled smart phones.

Running on Nokia’s new Symbian Belle OS, the Nokia 200, 701 and 600 will come equipped with NFC technology for “pairing and sharing functionality,” Nokia said in a release. This will enable all three of the new smart phones to quickly share content with other NFC phones, as well as pair with NFC-enabled mobile accessories such as speakers or Bluetooth headphones and headsets.

Nokia has announced that it will work with the New York Metropolitan Transit Authority to pilot NFC-enabled mobile ticketing.

According to a small footnote on a recent Nokia press release, the Finnish company has reached an agreement with the MTA to develop a NFC-based smart phone ticketing solution that will be piloted on New York regional commuter trains before the end of 2011.
