Rotterdamn NFC pilot ending

Payter will end its mobile payment services in Rotterdam on Dec. 1. The aim of the project was to explore the concept of a mobile wallet including all related services in a live operational setting.

More than 1,400 users and 100 retailers had used the services in Rotterdam. The scale of the program, however, was too small to be able to continue or further expand the services in Rotterdam. [end]

HID completes NFC key pilot at ASU

HID Global has announced the successful completion of the world’s first university pilot of NFC smart phones carrying digital keys.

First announced in September, the pilot involved a select group of students and staff at Arizona State University using NFC-enabled smart phones equipped with HID’s Secure Identity Object (SIO) Technology. Oracle integrates biometrics into retail POS

Oracle has released a new version of Oracle Retail Point-of-Service that aims to increase security, operational efficiency and functionality in part by integrating biometrics.

Oracle partnered with DigitalPersonal to add integrated biometrics to the POS package. Users of the software will login using their fingerprint, which will replace the need for PINs or passwords. This feature intends to reduce fraud by eliminating the possibility of unauthorized employees using a manager ID or swipe card to access the POS and approve overrides.

Office Depot launches in-store PayPal pilot

Office Depot has joined Home Depot as the second U.S. retailer to test PayPal’s point of sale payments solution, according to TG Daily.

Customers at select Office Depot stores can now make payments directly from their PayPal balance by simply punching in their mobile phone number and PayPal PIN. The solution requires only a software update at the point of sale for the merchant, and customers do not need to use a payment card, contactless fob or NFC-enabled phone to make a transaction.
