Gemalto's SIM enables NFC on Nokia handsets

Gemalto announced that its Near Field Communication SIM card product range successfully operates with Nokia’s contactless mobile phones.

Gemalto is demonstrating interoperability of its SIM cards with NFC-enabled Nokia 6216 classic handsets at Cartes & IDentification. The company is also presenting its Trusted Services Management (TSM) offer for the secure deployment and management of NFC services. As part of the demonstration, Gemalto is presenting payment and transport services with the Nokia 6216 classic. [end] 

Gemalto has announced that its “Allynis” Trusted Service Manager (TSM) solution has been selected to securely manage transactions on the Isis mobile commerce platform.

Isis, the mobile commerce joint venture between Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile, will enable U.S. customers to pay, present loyalty cards, and redeem coupons all with a tap of their NFC-enabled phones. According to Sébastien Cano, seniro vice president at Gemalto North America, the TSM solution will enable Isis to securely deliver mobile payments along with a host of NFC services, including access control and mass transit in addition to couponing and loyalty.

Nokia is launching a campaign to educate consumers in the United Arab Emirates on the benefits of using NFC technology in mobile devices.

The first of its kind in the UAE, the campaign will kick off with the installation of NFC-enabled posters at the VOX cinema in the Mall of the Emirates from Thursday to Saturday. All Nokia N9 smart phone users will be able to tap the posters to receive free cinema tickets, refreshments and the latest movie schedules from VOX cinema, according to Nokia.

Nokia has announced that it will work with the New York Metropolitan Transit Authority to pilot NFC-enabled mobile ticketing.

According to a small footnote on a recent Nokia press release, the Finnish company has reached an agreement with the MTA to develop a NFC-based smart phone ticketing solution that will be piloted on New York regional commuter trains before the end of 2011.
