Zenius releases NFC tech for iPhone

Thursday, November 12, 2009

Zenius Solutions, an NFC software company, announced an NFC credit card payment solution for the iPhone. Retrofitted iPhones can conduct secure contactless transactions for MasterCard PayPass, Visa payWave, American Express ExpressPay and Discover Network Zip. The solution provides control to the user from a menu on the iPhone handset screen, as well as support for multiple applications.

Whereas most current NFC options don’t allow the consumer to have any control, the Zenius solution integrates a mobile wallet menu on the iPhone, enabling a consumer to choose from a PIN-secured suite of applications such as credit cards, subway tickets, and coupons. The Zenius-enabled product can be added to the phone without any jailbreaking or unlocking.

The Zenius software design ensures that multiple menu items will be interoperable and compatible. Zenius will be demonstrating the technology at Cartes in Paris November 17-19.

The iPhone functionality is also available on additional GSM handsets. A complete list of phones is available from Zenius. In addition, Zenius is working on a suite of secure closed-loop applications such as gift cards, private payment, loyalty cards, identity, coupons, transportation, ticketing and more. [end]

Hosted by CTIA Enterprise and Applications in San Diego, the Disruptathon was judged by an audience of approximately 200 industry professionals, investors and app developers.
