G&D rolls out payment sticker

Monday, November 9, 2009

Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) is providing a completely new form factor for debit cards. Convego Air Mobile is a sticker which enables the user to pay contactlessly. The sticker contains the full functionality of a credit or debit card.

Once the foil has been affixed to a cellphone or PDA the device can be used to pay bills at all cash terminals and ticket machines supporting the worldwide contactless MasterCard PayPass standard. The pay sticker is an important transitional technology on the way to contactless payment transactions by cellphone.

The Convego Air Mobile payment sticker measures 43 x 33 millimeters (1.7 x 1.3 inches) and can therefore be affixed to any recent cell phone, smart phone or PDA. The surface of the sticker provides enough space for customer-specific designs and optical personalization by laser engraving.

The G&D payment sticker is certified for MasterCard PayPass and can be used on all payment terminals which support contactless payment using MasterCard PayPass. Convego Air Mobile is already being used in several pilot projects by various banks in Europe and North America. [end]

Oracle has released a new version of Oracle Retail Point-of-Service that aims to increase security, operational efficiency and functionality in part by integrating biometrics.

Oracle partnered with DigitalPersonal to add integrated biometrics to the POS package. Users of the software will login using their fingerprint, which will replace the need for PINs or passwords. This feature intends to reduce fraud by eliminating the possibility of unauthorized employees using a manager ID or swipe card to access the POS and approve overrides.
