Twinlinx sticker grants Windows Phone users immediate access to NFC

Friday, September 25, 2009

French technology company Twinlinx, created by two former executives of INSIDE Contactless, has rolled out what it calls an NFC sticker that will run on the new Windows smart phone due out next month. The company’s MyMax sticker also offers backward compatibility with the earlier Windows Mobile 6.1 version.

MyMax is a thin electronic sticker designed to upgrade existing and future Bluetooth phones with NFC functionality paving the way for the development and mass deployment of NFC applications, including payment, transport, loyalty, access control, and smart posters.

By being independent from the phone and the NFC ecosystem, the distribution model is simplified, as a sticker can be marketed and sold through different channels and does not rely on convincing people to change their phones to get access to NFC.

“One of the major advantages of developing applications with the Windows Phone is the uniformity across different phone platforms,” said Twinlinx CEO Jacek Kowalski, INSIDE’s former CEO and co-founder. “It means that we can now offer the MyMax NFC solution to over 35 million existing Windows Phone users.” [end]

Turkcell, Turkey’s largest mobile operator, has announced the launch of a SIM-based NFC road toll payment application on the Turkcell T11 smart phone.

Developed in collaboration with Bank Asya, the app allows users to migrate their plastic KGS toll payment cards onto their T11 smart phone to pay for fares when crossing bridges and freeway turnpikes.
