NFC Forum advances mission at member meeting in Finland

Monday, September 21, 2009

The NFC Forum, a non-profit industry association seeking to advance the use of NFC technology, announced several accomplishments from its recent all-members meeting in Oulu, Finland.

These included a Plugfest, where NFC Forum member companies successfully tested the interoperability of their technologies with those of their peers, a validation test of the forum’s logical link control protocol candidate specification and the selection of two test tool vendors to partner with the forum in developing compliance testing equipment.

The fifth NFC Forum Plugfest focused on radio frequency testing using ISO-based test tools and digital protocol testing. Fourteen member companies participated in the event where more than 30 RF and 10 DP test sessions were scheduled and executed.

Objective of the test session to validate the NFC logical link control protocol was to identify any issues that could adversely impact interoperability before formal adoption of the specification that supports peer-to-peer communication between two NFC-enabled devices. This is essential for any NFC applications that involve bi-directional communications.

The NFC Forum Compliance Committee selected two test tool vendors, AT4 wireless and Integri, to partner with the Forum to develop equipment for compliance testing to the NFC Forum specifications. The vendors were invited to collaborate with the NFC Forum to develop test tools as part of the ongoing work to establish its certification program. The forum will provide limited financial assistance to the selected partners to have their test tool implementations validated by an independent test laboratory. [end]
