NFC Forum membership news

The NFC Forum announced that Innovision Research & Technology plc, and STMicroelectronics have become Sponsor Members and have joined its Board of Directors.

In other member news, Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB has upgraded its membership level from Associate to Principal, and nine organizations have joined as Associate and Non-Profit members. The Forum also announced that Paula Berger has been appointed Executive Director.

Formerly Principal and Associate members, respectively, Innovision and STMicroelectronics now join fellow Sponsor members HP, INSIDE Contactless, MasterCard Worldwide, Microsoft Corp., NEC, Nokia, NTT DOCOMO, Inc., NXP Semiconductors, Panasonic, Renesas Technology, Samsung, Sony Corporation and Visa Inc. [end] 

Chicago is set to roll out the first phase of its new bicycle sharing program, according to NBC Chicago.

The new system, Chicago B-cycle, allows residents to rent bikes by the hour at various stations throughout the city using a credit card or contactless membership card. According to NBC, similar systems are already operating in Denver and Minneapolis.

The NFC Forum, a non-profit association dedicated to advancing NFC technology, has gained 19 new members from 14 countries.

The new members are from several sectors of the NFC industry, including semiconductor and terminal manufacturers, higher education, service providers, compliance and testing organizations and systems integrators.

The NFC Forum has added a new membership category, allowing those companies actually using the technology in the field to join the non-profit organization. Appropriately named “implementer,” the new category complements existing NFC Forum membership levels which are primarily targeted at technical specification development.

Australia’s Tourism and Transport Forum has announced its intentions to roll out a contacltess ticketing system in Sydney modeled after Southeast Queensland’s Go Card system, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.
