ITN empowers trade shows and events with NFC and Nokia handsets

Nokia is launching a campaign to educate consumers in the United Arab Emirates on the benefits of using NFC technology in mobile devices.

The first of its kind in the UAE, the campaign will kick off with the installation of NFC-enabled posters at the VOX cinema in the Mall of the Emirates from Thursday to Saturday. All Nokia N9 smart phone users will be able to tap the posters to receive free cinema tickets, refreshments and the latest movie schedules from VOX cinema, according to Nokia.

Nokia vice president Ilari Nurmi has announced that the company plans to embed all future devices with NFC technology, according to Thinq.co.uk.

Speaking at the Thailand launch of Nokia’s three new NFC-enabled handsets, Nurmi declared, “From now on, all of our products will have an NFC chip inside. All other NFC-equipped devices can also link to our products.”

Nokia has announced the launch of three new mass market NFC-enabled smart phones.

Running on Nokia’s new Symbian Belle OS, the Nokia 200, 701 and 600 will come equipped with NFC technology for “pairing and sharing functionality,” Nokia said in a release. This will enable all three of the new smart phones to quickly share content with other NFC phones, as well as pair with NFC-enabled mobile accessories such as speakers or Bluetooth headphones and headsets.

Nokia has announced that it will work with the New York Metropolitan Transit Authority to pilot NFC-enabled mobile ticketing.

According to a small footnote on a recent Nokia press release, the Finnish company has reached an agreement with the MTA to develop a NFC-based smart phone ticketing solution that will be piloted on New York regional commuter trains before the end of 2011.
